The VeilRoyal College of Art 2025
The Veil is an Immersive digital installation, live performance piece and movement workshop, integrating interactive projections with dance and movement. The project explores how shame manifests in the body and affects self-expression.

Created in collaboration with Kashish Gakhar

Further developed at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, PTEQ Residency 2025

Context & ProcessI contributed to developing the project’s visual identity and narrative direction through moodboards, storyboards, and concept iteration. I designed and tested body tracking systems, interactive visuals, and projection mapping workflows in TouchDesigner, building responsive environments that reacted in real time to performers’ movement.

I created draft 3D mockups to explore spatial layout and overall sequence. I also contributed to the spoken word elements, overall soundscape development, and choreographic structuring to ensure cohesion between narrative, movement, and projection.

The work underwent multiple audience testing phases, allowing us to refine pacing, interaction sensitivity, and emotional resonance based on live feedback.

Developement
The project required significant adaptation to meet the technical and spatial constraints of the Frameless venue. Design and structural changes were implemented, including transitioning to pre-rendered visual elements and removing the physical veil component.

Rendering to Frameless's large-scale resolution required extensive optimisation. With limited testing days and only two opportunities to view the work in the actual space, every decision had to count, and we had to troubleshoot rapidly.

PTEQ Residency
The Performance Technology and Equity (PTEQ) residency offered the opportunity for the Veil to return to its fully interactive form, with more support, space and resources. Special thanks to Adam Ray Braun, who provided incredible creative tech support throughout the week-long program.

Unlike the performance-focused presentation at Frameless, this iteration prioritised embodied experience. Inviting external participants to interact live with the projected environment, experiencing the visual system as a fully immersive responsive space, their bodies directly influencing what appeared on screen(the veil).

The residency allowed deeper exploration of the relationship between body, technology, and shared presence that sits at the heart of the piece.  Watching participants move through it fully immersed, being taken on an emotional journey in real time, was one of the clearest moments of the work landing exactly as intended.
